UCI-C1 event for BMX Freestyle Park in 2019
Cycling Canada and the Paris based Union Cycliste Internationale have announced that Toronto XJam, a major feature at the Toronto International Bicycle Show, will be one of two events in Canada designated a UCI-C1 event for BMX Freestyle Park in 2019.
The event takes place March 1 thru 3 at the Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place, Toronto. The other event will take place February 26 at Joyride 150 located in Markham. BMX Freestyle Park has been designated an Olympic Sport.
Athletes competing in both events will have the opportunity to gain points and make them eligible to compete for their Country at the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan. Freestyle athlete’s from a number of countries including foreign National Teams are expected to take part in both events.
Show Manager Carl Bastedo commented. The Toronto International Bicycle Show has provided features for BMX and Mountain Bikes since it’s founding in 1987. Having the Toronto XJam feature at the show designated a points qualifier for the Japan Olympic Games takes the event to a new level. We look forward to working with Cycling Canada, UCI & Joyride150. Toronto XJam Event Manager Zeb Dennis commented. Being designated a UCI-C1 event qualifying riders for the 2020 Olympics presents us with new challenges for 2019. My course design and build team have been working hard to offer the International field of Athletes with a great course to compete on. I look forward to hosting the Worlds top BMX Freestyle Athletes at this years event.
